How To Become A Freelancer In No Time

How to become a freelancer – In this post, I share with you information about freelancing i.e. what freelancers do, and why you should consider freelancing. I also share some freelancing resources to help you get started with freelancing in no time. Hopefully, this will help answer some of your questions about freelancing and help you decide whether freelancing is something for you.  To start off, I’ll explain what freelancing is.How To Become A Freelancer

What is freelancing?

Wikipedia describes a  freelancer as ” /…/ a person who is self-employed and is not necessarily committed to a particular employer long-term.” And the Merriam-Webster defines a freelancer as “a person who pursues a profession without a long-term commitment to any one employer.”

A freelancer is a person who provides services such as copywriting, administrative work, etc. to one customer or multiple customers for a fee. As a freelancer, you are your own boss and are free to choose which projects you want to take on.

What Kind of Work Do Freelancers Do?

There are a lot of jobs that you can work with as a freelancer. You can write articles for blogs or websites, do copywriting, become a ghostwriter and more. You can also offer web design services or software development services. I mean the list goes on.

And the great part about freelancing is that you don’t have to dwell on one particular skill set. If you have more than one skill, you can mix-and-match the services you provide your clients.

How Much Do Freelancers Make?

Let’s face it; we all have families to take care of, food to buy and bills to pay. So checking whether freelancing will be lucrative enough for you or not is a wise thing to do.

So how much do freelancers make? Unfortunately, there is no definite or straightforward answer to this question. The amount of money you will earn as a freelancer will depend on your skill set, how much you charge, how fast you are at performing your tasks, and the number of hours you spend on each task.

Although it’s pretty hard to gauge just how much money freelancers earn on average, some surveys have shown promising results.

Great Freelance Sites To Find Work

One of the things that you will have to do to get started is to shop around for good freelancer sites to join. Below are some of the best freelancer sites that I like: is a great place to find jobs. They have gigs varying from technical writing, programming, internet marketing, logo design, and drawing. They currently have over 25,235,000 registered users and over 12,390,000 job postings.

UpWork (former Elance and oDesk) have a very impressive network of freelancers. They have an extensive array of freelance jobs which include writing, translation, software development, legal, and more.

PeoplePerHour is a freelance site for all skills related to web content writing, SEO specialists, software development, web design, and internet marketing. Their payment process is easy and straightforward.

While freelancing is an excellent way to earn money from home, it does entail a lot of time spent alone in your home office – no colleagues. If you don’t mind working alone then you will probably thrive. However, if you enjoy working in teams, sharing ideas with colleagues, etc. then you might want to consider renting an office space (aka the co-working phenomenon).

How To Become A Freelancer – Some Resources To Help You Get Started

I’ve gathered a list of books that should help you get started as a freelancer. You might not think that you need books, but learning from the people who have been there and done that will save you a few headaches. No need to re-invent the wheel. It will also make your transition to freelancing a lot easier, and you should be up and running in no time. Moreover, these books will make a great investment to your business.
