It’s been crazy busy over here in our home, but I’m so happy that I could finally find some time to sit down and write a blog post about something that I’m passionate about – spreading positive energy and personal growth wisdom. Sigh – am I getting old?
I think life teaches us what we need to learn either by going through an experience and learning from it or if you are lucky, by learning from others who have already gone through stuff. I’m going to share with you the three simple steps to personal growth that have helped me (and continue to help me) in my journey towards self-improvement!
1) Self-Affirmation for Personal Growth
Positive thoughts have the power to influence your life in so many positive ways than negative thoughts. I don’t know where I would be without the power of self-affirmation. You are what you think.
Most positive thinking people look confident because they think and feel confident; it boils down to having a positive image of yourself. Think positive thoughts about your ambitions, translate those thoughts into spoken words and act on them. I perform self-affirmation exercises on a daily basis, and they do help me get through some difficult times and afford me the ability to keep my eyes on the ball.
2) Set Goals
Setting goals is how we move forward. You must set goals for yourself and celebrate each milestone. Your goals can be big long term goals or small goals that you can fulfil in a matter of days or weeks.
Write down all your goals on paper and plan your future. What would you like get done by the end of the month? How much money can you save by November? Where do you want to see your business in about a year from now and what steps will you take to get there?
Planning your future and writing down your goals is a vital part of self-development and personal growth. It gives you direction, and you will also have something to look at when you review your progress later on.
I’ve rounded up a list of some amazing books about self-improvement and personal growth that you might want to read. One of the books features a foreword by Steve Harvey!
3) Don’t Be Afraid To Try New Things
This one is one of my favourites. I love starting new ambitious projects; wall tiling, painting, software development projects, name it! And I have had my share of flops doing all these things, but I got better and kept getting better.
Growth comes by building new and better pathways towards your goals. If it’s not challenging enough, then it won’t help you grow. Do you want to be a doctor? Work hard, put in the hours but don’t tell yourself you can’t be one just because you are too afraid to try. You can conquer whatever you set your mind to. Do you have a business idea? Start your business, give it a go. If it fails, it fails fast so you can come up with better strategies to make it succeed. You should never be afraid to leave your comfort zone.
4) Track Your Progress
You want to track your progress and then review yourself later on as you work towards your goals. Try and find out what went well, and keep notes so you can re-apply the same method or strategy you used to achieve the right results. You also want to know what went wrong so that you can avoid making the same mistakes or figure out what needs to change for you to continue making progress.
Tracking progress has many benefits, and it’s a great habit to embrace. Tracking and seeing how you progress towards your goals will make you happier and will motivate you to keep on going. You will also learn what’s good and what’s bad for your growth.
5) Surround yourself with positive energy – lot’s of it!
Negative or toxic people will erode the daylights out of any happy camper. You walk into a room looking and feeling like sunshine and roses, they notice this (sometimes not, just out of habit) and make you feel all sorts of blue in no time. I’m no phycologists and so cannot say why some people are so toxic, but I know to run when I detect negativity. Toxic people will do anything to make others feel less important, inferior, not good enough or less smart. Toxic people will slum down your ideas, opinions, and dreams. Present them with a good idea or your ambitions, and they will spit venom all over your case leaving you feeling drained.
If you want to be successful and make all your dreams come true, then cut off any unnecessary contact with negative people; Surround yourself with people who will give you encouragement and fill you with positive energy and light.
I do hope you find these tips to personal growth and self-improvement helpful.
