The holiday season doesn’t have to be stressful. With a bit of planning and organization, you can get your home ready for the festivities and be able to join in the celebrations. If you are expecting friends and family over for Christmas or Thanksgiving, then these tips on how to prepare your home for the holidays should come in handy:
The first thing you want to do to prepare your home for the holidays is to get rid of clutter. Doing this one thing will not only save you time, but it will also give you a fresh start.
If you’re unsure of where to start, start by getting rid of all the things that you haven’t used in the last six months and donate them to charity. Clothes, shoes, unused kitchen utensils, etc. if they no longer bring you joy, give them to charity.
To make the decluttering process quick and easy, sort your clothes and other household items into three categories:

2. Clean Out the Pantry and Freezer
Cleaning out the pantry and freezer is a great way to prepare your home for the holidays. After all, the pantry and fridge are quite literally the foundation of all your festive foodstuff. If they’re clean and well organized, prepping and restocking them with new supplies will be a lot easier for you.
3. Prepare Your Home for the Holidays by Decorating Your Porch
Hanging some twinkling string lights from the roof of your porch is an easy way to give your front door a warm and magical festive feel. And, for that extra flare, you could also add a few lanterns filled with sparkly colorful Christmas ornaments.
4. Get Your Holiday Supplies Ready
If you (like me) own a special supply of holiday dinner sets, napkin rings, and silver that live in the display cabinet and only come out to play during the festive season, then now is the time to check that they’re in good condition. Check that you have enough entertainment supplies and replace any missing pieces. You might also want to iron your special tablecloths/runners and napkins so that they are fresh and crease-free.
5. Create the Ultimate Christmas Ambiance
Use scented candles, low-key lighting, soft throw blankets, velvety decorative pillows, and golden details to create that warm and inviting feel to your home.
6. Decorate the Bathroom
Spread the spirit of Christmas throughout your home by decorating your bathroom. Transform it into a joyous space by switching out bathroom floor rugs for more festive looking ones for that magical feel. Add some scented candles and invest in a couple of beautiful matching hand towels embellished with Christmas trees.
7. Prepare Your Home for the Holidays by Getting Your Guest Room Ready
It’s essential to make your guests feel very welcomed. Make sure your guest room is as comfortable as possible for your guests by creating some space in the wardrobe so they can unpack their belongings. Place an extra blanket (a nice thick one) in the closet so your guests can use it when needed.
And for that extra touch to spoil your guests, fill a basket with some toiletries, chocolates, a hairbrush, and a spare toothbrush and place it on their bed.
