Ready to find out how you can save money quickly and fix your finances for good? Then you are in the right place. Saving money is something that we all could get better at. And I’ll be the first to admit; it isn’t always easy. However, I have done it, and you can do it too.
In this blog post, I’ll be sharing 20 great tips that will help you save money quickly. Give some of them a go and let me know what you think?
1. Shop Groceries On A Full Stomach
You don’t want to go shopping on an empty stomach. It’s a terrible idea.
An empty stomach means that you are going to feel hungry, make irrational decisions, buy snack foods that you usually would not buy and that are often expensive.
Shopping on an empty stomach might hurt your wallet, and there’s even research to prove that:
This study shows just how much more you are likely to spend at the grocery store when you shop on an empty stomach. And not only on food but also on non-edible things too.
2. Get Into Meal Planning
One of my favorite ways to save cash on groceries is by planning my meals at least one week in advance.
Planning meals will not only help you lower the chances of doing daily shopping but also means that you will prepare your meals and make dinners in bulk. It also means that you will be more likely to repurpose your leftovers for the next day’s dinner too.
Is meal planning not your thing?
Have you heard about the 5 dollar meal plan? This a plan where you get a pre-made weekly meal plan and shopping list. So if meal planning isn’t your cup of tea, then try out the 5 dollar meal plan. It’s great as it will help you save both money and time.
3. Shop Clothes At Thrift Stores
Thrift shops are like treasure troves filled with great surprises just waiting for you to discover them. Shopping at thrift stores is one of the best ways to save money quickly. Buying second hand clothes or “Thrifting” is also fun and such a great way to find unique, high-quality brand names for very little money.
4. Rent Parking Space
If you live in the city center where finding an empty parking space is a challenge, then you might be surprised to learn that there are people who may be more than willing to pay you real cash for a parking space.
So, if you live in the city center and have some space to spare outside your home then why not rent it out? Renting out space could be a high earner for you.
5. Use A Shopping List
I’ll be the first to admit that if I go into the grocery stores without a shopping list, I’ll end up spending a little over budget.
Having a shopping list is a great tool when it comes to saving money. It helps you exclude all the stuff that you really do not need to buy.
Set some time aside to write yourself a shopping list before you go out grocery shopping. That way you won’t make impulsive purchases, and you’ll save money quickly without even realizing it.
6. Cut Down On Daily Shops
There will always be days when you need something in an emergency or when you have forgotten something from the stores. However, you want to try and make this a rare occurrence.
Another great way to save money quickly is to try and do your grocery shopping on a weekly basis rather than a daily basis. Cutting down on your daily shops will help you to plan your meals and helps cut down on what you spend.
7. Use Your Calculator
Doing the grocery aisles with a calculator with your kids in tow or when you are in a hurry may not always be ideal. However, if you have the time to do so, then taking a calculator with you when you head out to the shops is a great way to save money quickly.
You will be able to work out how much you have spent as you go round. Having a calculator will also stop you from being tempted to grab something impulsively.
8. Try Own Brand
One of the easiest ways to save money quickly is switching to own brand products. Buying an own brand version of a product over a brand version may not sound so tempting, especially if you are you a bit of a food snob. But let me tell you, you may just be missing out on a great way to save some money.
Trust me, own brands are not only cheaper but, it is also difficult to even tell the difference between own brands and the other more expensive brands.
9. Buy A Bargain Only If You Need It
Bargains are great, and yes, they can be very tempting, but only if you want to buy something that you really need. Buying something that you didn’t plan for just because it’s a bargain is a good way to lose money. It won’t be the bargain that you hoped for.
10. Buy Wooden Toys for Your Kids
Instead of plastic electronic toys, consider buying good quality wooden toys for your baby or toddler.
Not only do wooden toys last longer than plastics toys, but they are also better for the environment and help you save money in the long run.
11. Cancel Your Cable or Satellite TV
Seriously, cancel your cable subscription. It may indeed seem like something you cannot do without, but canceling your cable subscription is a great way to reduce your monthly spending, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much you can save.
You may not see it, but one of the most expensive bills that a lot of households have are likely to be cable TV bills.
Ok, so what do you watch then?
Amazon Prime and Netflix are great alternatives to cable TV and allow you to stream great TV shows and movies at an affordable price.
And the great thing is that Amazon Prime and Netflix offer a 30-Day free trial! So why not give a go and see what you think? You can sign up for Amazon Prime here to start your free trial.
12. Use Cash Back Apps
Use apps such as Ibotta, Fetch, and Shopkick to help you save money quickly.
The Ibotta app allows you to earn money by unlocking rebates on items you buy. To get your money back, take a picture of your receipt or scan the QR code located at the bottom of the receipt.
13. Get A Crock-pot
Invest in a Crock-pot and make sure it’s a good quality one (I recommend this one). With a crock-pot in your kitchen, you’re able to spend less money on meat because a crock-pot will turn any cheap cut into juicy, succulent meat that literally melts in your mouth.
Another great thing you will love about having a crock-pot in your kitchen is that you can bulk-up on legumes. Legumes make great protein-rich vegetarian meals very affordable.
14. Sell Things You Don’t Need Any More
Do you have furniture or clothes around your house that you don’t need anymore? Why not pass all that stuff on to someone who may have some use for them?
Selling your gently used items is a great way to generate some income and boost your savings.
And if the items that you have are in excellent condition, then it will be easy to find people who will be more than willing pay for it. Selling gently used stuff also helps you clean out your home.
15. Why Not Sell Your Time?
You can sell your time by doing freelance work such as proofreading or by starting a money making a blog like mine (you can read here if you’re interested) or by taking on virtual assistant roles like for example data entry jobs.
There are tonnes of companies out there that need your help and they are willing to pay you for it.
16. Sell Handmade Items
Are you a dab hand at sewing or knitting? Perhaps you enjoy baking and decorating cakes and cupcakes instead? Or maybe you’re a pro when it comes to working a paintbrush?
If you have a talent for something, then why not turn it into a business? There’s someone out there who’s going to be interested in buying those crafted items from you. Give it a go! 🙂
17. Trade In Old Mobile Phones
Getting the latest and coolest mobile phone is fun, but that also means that some drawer somewhere in the house is stocked full of old mobile phones that have been hidden away since your last upgrade and the upgrade before that.
Trade your old phones into a phone recycling company. These companies will pay you money for your old phone. And when it comes to saving money, every little bit helps.
18. Why Not Sell Your Opinions?
Yes, it’s a thing. You can sell your opinions. If you’re not afraid to speak your mind about something, then this side hustle is definitely for you.

19. Workout at Home for Cheap and Save Money Quickly
Working out doesn’t have to cost you a big chunk of your hard-earned money. With little to no workout equipment, you can exercise at home for free.
20. Sell Your Rare Coins
Do you have a stash of rare coins somewhere in your home? Rare coins can fetch some pretty good cash if you auction them. So if you have a jar filled with rare coins, then it would be worthwhile checking how much money you can make to grow your savings account.
As you can see, there a myriad of ways you can use to help you save money quickly as well as earn some money fast. I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I did writing it.
