5 Doable Staycation Ideas For Kids

While many of us love the idea of being able to go abroad, or perhaps a holiday in the homeland, it isn’t always possible. For many of us, a holiday, no matter where to, is expensive, and we don’t still have the money to spare. So, if you’re looking for staycation ideas for kids, then you’re in the right place!

The idea of a staycation – when you spend time close to home rather than traveling somewhere, has become more and more popular.

The trouble with a staycation is that you are likely to worry that your children are going to be bored, or feel that they are missing out. But this doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, to help you out, I have put together some of the very best staycation ideas for not only you but your kids too.

Let’s jump right in:

1. Still, Countdown To Your Staycation

When you are heading off on holiday, there is a good chance that you will create somewhat of a countdown, so that you generate some excitement.

If you are not heading anywhere, then it may seem that there is no point in getting excited, but it really does pay to try your best to get the entire family looking forward to it. You can do this by treating your trip as you would any other holiday. Use a chalkboard to a countdown to your holiday and generate some real excitement in your home!

2. Decide What You Are Doing In Advance

While planning might not seem like the most fun thing in the world, sometimes it is what you need to do. Sit down and think about all the days that you have at home, planning in as much as you can in advance.

Of course, you are going to need to consider the weather; however, for the most part, it should be fine for days out. Research into different places that are local to you and see if there are new places that you and your family can explore and add them to your ‘staycation ideas for kids to-do-list’.

3. Create Your Own Water Park

Playing with water always goes down a treat with most kids so why not build your own little waterpark in the backyard?  There are so many cute and affordable, good quality pools and inflatable waterparks to fit any budget. And the great thing is, with good care, your kids can enjoy their waterpark for years to come.

4. Ask Your Kids To Pick Something To Do

Seeing as your kids are a part of your staycation, it makes sense that they should have a say in what you all do. Put them in charge of an activity, or, if you are feeling brave, an entire day.

Let them think about what they would really like to do, and no matter how messy it may be, try and agree with them. You may be surprised by the truly creative things that they manage to come up with.

5. Treat Everyone To Dinner

Often, on the last night of a holiday, everyone comes together to have a meal. Just because you are at home, that doesn’t mean that this tradition cannot happen. Rather than cooking, why not treat everyone to a takeaway for the last night, not only is it something to look forward to, but it is also a high end to your time together.

Staycation Ideas for Kids

As I have already covered, it is a great idea to try and have plenty planned in for your break. After all, you may end up with the dreaded boredom setting in.
