Baby soy allergy will happen when your baby’s immune system overreacts to an otherwise harmless soy protein which it has identified as foreign and harmful.
Usually, parents of babies with cow’s milk baby allergy find out that their little one is also allergic to soy-based formula. Babies who are allergic to soy might also be allergic to cow milk protein and other foods such as peanuts, almonds and other nuts.

Soy-containing foods are very common. If your baby has a diagnosed baby soy allergy then avoiding soy-containing products will be the only way to ensure that your precious little one does not get an allergic reaction. There are great hypoallergenic baby milk formulas out on the market specially designed for babies with food allergies such as soy allergy.
There is also plenty of food out there that does not contain soy, so do not despair. Some Asian cuisine, however, might be a good idea to avoid as these foods most certainly will contain soy as it is a very popular Asian food ingredient.
Avoid the following foods if your baby has infant soy allergy…
- Soy (soy albumin, soy cheese, soy ice cream, soy milk, soy grits)
- Soy sauce
- Textured vegetable protein (TVP)

First of all, you want to make sure that the symptoms that your baby is presenting are checked out by your pediatrician to make sure it’s an allergy. Then if your baby does have a confirmed baby soy allergy, avoiding soy products will be key to avoid any allergic reactions.
You will also need to discuss alternative milk formula substitutes, that your little one can have, with your pediatric dietician. A hypoallergenic milk formula may be prescribed to provide your baby with all the nutrients necessary for healthy development.
